On the 1st May 2004 Pure Mint Recordings was born. Mint Source Recordings - the sister label of Pure Mint - was established in September 2002 by Anthony Hall with a view to looking at redressing the imbalance in the traditional relationship between artists and record label. Anthony qualified as both a New York attorney and English lawyer, having started out in the music industry in the early nineties in a guitar band. He was previously engaged as in house counsel for both Chrysalis and Carlton Television and set up Entertainment Advice Limited in January 2004 to provide no nonsense sound legal and business affairs advice to the media industries. Anthony trained at renowned media lawyers Schilling & Lom in London.

The basic deal structure offered to all Pure Mint acts is really quite simple:

1. All Net Profits are split 50% to the artist and 50% to the label, thus allowing artists to share in all income streams (including VPL income - which has been traditionally excluded) and thereby putting an end to the trend of packaging deductions, reduced royalties for television advertised product and so on….

2. The label does not operate long-term restrictive contracts and the artist is free to leave the label at any time. Pure Mint wants acts to record with the label because they want to, not because a piece of paper says they have to!

3. All marketing, A&R, design and promotional proposals (including spends) are mutually discussed and agreed upon.
